Rules and Regulations

Graves:

·         Graves are only for those that live in Meade County within 12 miles of Elk Vale Cemetery or who have family members interred in the cemetery.

·         $100 dollars is added to the cost of each grave that will be refunded as soon as a stone or cement marker is erected on the grave.

·         The cost of opening and closing the grave is the responsibility of the grave purchaser.

·         Graves will be considered abandoned if the graves have not been used within 75 years and the owners cannot be contacted. Abandoned graves will be eligible for resale.

·         Graves will be located and marked by cemetery personnel.

·         To insure family members are buried together, please purchase all graves at the same time. Consider buying a plot of 8 graves.

·         There may only be one burial per grave.

·         There may only be one burial and one cremation per grave.

·         There may only be four cremations per grave.

Markers:

·         A stone marker must be placed within six months of interment.

·         The stone marker must not be larger than the grave width and must not be higher than any existing markers.

·         If a marker has not been erected by that time, the cemetery will contact survivors. If a marker is not provided, the cemetery will provide a simple stone or cement marker and the owners will forfeit the marker deposit money. If a marker is purchased by the family after the cemetery has purchased a stone, the money will not be refunded.

 Decorations:

·         Real or artificial flowers may be placed on graves at any time.

·         Solar lights may be used. Two per site.

·         Flags can be displayed but will be removed after an appropriate time.

·         Everything needs to be anchored well as high winds are normal in this area.

·         Please do not over decorate the site.

·         Please remove any items that are old or look bad. Cemetery personnel and volunteers will remove any items that no longer look fresh.

·         Please do not leave any paper items, stuffed animals, signs, large items, wind chimes, clothing, or sport items. Do not leave any beer, alcohol containers, or glass containers of any kind.

·         Do not leave any chairs, cribs, stone benches, etc.

Purchasing a grave site:

If you are interested in purchasing a grave, please call Ardie Tatum at 605-484-1553. To insure having family members buried together, please purchase all graves at the same time. A purchase plan can be set up, but all money must be paid before interment.
